Insolvency Service Statistics - Administrations On The Rise

The Government has released its latest company insolvency statistics for the quarter July to September 2019 (Q3).

In summary, the key points are:

Total company insolvencies increased slightly in Q3 2019 compared to the previous quarter, predominantly driven by increased numbers of Administrations and CVLs

Administrations have reached their highest quarterly level since Q1 2014, an increase of 20% on Q2 2019, and 26.7% up on Q3 2018

The number of Administrations is still low compared to the 2008-2009 recession figures (there were 484 in Q3 2019, and 2,094 in Q4 2008)

CVLs have reached their highest quarterly total since Q1 2012, increasing by 2.3% from Q2 2019

Compulsory Liquidations have fallen for the third successive quarter to their lowest level since Q4 2017, with a decrease of 16.4% from Q2 2019

There were 89 CVAs in Q3 2019, compared to 92 in Q2 2019 and 94 in Q3 2018

This quarter saw the first recorded Receivership since Q1 2018; there are still fewer than 10 cases per quarter
